Summary
Lystr is an inventory app. Your inventory data is stored on your device and can sync through iCloud if you have it enabled. If you use cloud photo processing, the photo you capture is sent to our backend and our LLM provider to generate a suggested title, description, and tags.
Data We Collect
- Inventory content you create: location names, container names, item names, notes, and tags.
- Photos you attach: item and container photos you choose to store with your inventory.
- Account identifiers: the user identifier Apple assigns when you use Sign in with Apple, and — if you choose to share it — your email address (or Apple's private relay address).
- Cloud processing usage: minimal per-user usage counters (to prevent abuse) and basic request metadata (for example, timestamp and install identifier).
Sign in with Apple
Lystr uses Sign in with Apple to authenticate requests to cloud services. We do not ask for or store your Apple ID password. Depending on your Apple settings, we may receive an email address or an Apple-provided relay email.
Voice, Camera & Location
- Camera: used to capture item photos and scan QR/barcodes.
- Speech recognition: used to turn your voice into searchable text. Speech recognition may be processed by Apple services depending on your device settings.
- Location (optional): if you grant location access, it is used on-device to suggest nearby stores when you save a gift idea. Your location is not sent to our servers.
Subscriptions & Payments
Lystr Pro subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple through your App Store account. We never see or store your payment details. Subscription entitlement status is checked on-device through Apple's StoreKit framework.
iCloud Sync & Wishlist Sharing
Your inventory syncs through your personal iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit — we do not operate servers that store your inventory. If you share a wishlist, the shared items are stored in a CloudKit shared zone that only the people you invite can access; participants you invite can see wishlist items and mark ones they plan to buy.
Cloud Photo Processing (VLM)
When you choose a workflow that uses cloud photo processing, Lystr uploads the photo to our backend API, which then sends it to an external visual language model (VLM) provider to generate a description.
- We do not intentionally store your images on our backend; the photo is used transiently for processing.
- We store rate-limit counters and operational logs to keep the service reliable and secure.
- The VLM provider may retain data per their own policies; review their terms for details.
Your Choices & Account Deletion
- You can delete locations, containers, items, photos, and tags in the app.
- If you use iCloud sync, deleting data will remove it from iCloud as well (after sync completes).
- You can sign out of cloud services in Settings.
- Delete your account: Settings (cloud icon) → Delete Account removes the data our backend holds about you (usage counters keyed to your account) and signs you out. Inventory stored on your device and in your personal iCloud remains under your control and can be deleted in the app or via iCloud settings.
